Green Deal Awareness through Augmented Reality in Primary School Education

The main motivation sources for this project is the sustainable environment, green skills and digital tools that can be used to raise awareness of especially young people on these issues. As it is known, environmental problems threaten our world more and more day by day. It is very important to establish a conscious society structure in order to prevent the effects that may occur as a result of these threats. This will only be possible with an environmental education that will be given at an early age. Using digital technologies such as augmented reality (AR) in the trainings to be given also increases the quality of the training. Therefore, this Erasmus project focuses on raising awareness about sustainable environment among young people with the use of AR in environmental education and green skills. Being aware of environmental problems, which are starting to threaten people more and more day by day, is considered important in order to be able to fight these problems. Although academic studies are carried out on environmental problems and sustainable environment, raising conscious individuals maintains its importance. Environmental education is of critical importance in order to prevent environmental problems and to raise conscious individuals in this regard. Therefore, environmental education that will increase environmental awareness in individuals is the basis for sustainable development (Anufrieva, 2020). It is stated that environmental education should include out-of-school learning environments besides the classroom environment. In environmental education, out-of-school learning environments provide students with opportunities to experience real situations and support their learning about the environment and its problems. However, accessing out-ofschool learning environments; It can become a troublesome process due to legal procedures, financial conditions, adverse weather and natural conditions. In recent years, it has become inevitable to use digital tools and equipment as course materials in classroom environments. One of these innovative digital technologies used in classroom environments is AR technology and applications, whose educational value is increasingly recognized. AR is expressed as the interactive display of virtual objects together with the real environment, thanks to the use of technological tools. In addition, it is stated in the studies carried out that AR technologies make the learning content three-dimensional, provide visuality, enable learning regardless of time and place. For this reason, this Erasmus project, which aims to use AR applications in primary school environmental education, is requested to be supported.
